Monday Menu Plan

Brrrr - things sure have turned chill here this past weekend, however I'm not going to complain. I've grown very tired of the hot humid weather that seem to have hung over us for so long. we are finally going to get to what Joseph has been waiting for in school a study of farming of sheep. Back in the late summer I purchased us some drop spindles and wool to use with this block and he has been dying to use them. He's been working on knitting - he already knows how to crochet. I' knitting him a Weasley sweater from Knitted Charms - hope to have it done by the end of December when cold weather really hits - maybe I'll get lucky and get it done for Christmas. His Monday baking will be making pumpkin spice cookies. Here's what will be on the dinner table this week.

potato & spinach frittata, salad, toast & jam
veggie pizza, salad
steak sliders, green bean casserole
roasted chicken, long grain & wild rice, maple roasted carrots

Today is going just great! I'm still working on getting the blog and my links in working order so do be patient with me. Menu Plan Monday

Hope this day finds everybody doing fine and dandy and ready to tackle the week. Last week the boys and I gave the living room/dining room/school room a going over. Took down the Irish lace panels & valances and washed them, moved all the furniture and vacuumed under it. Dusted and oiled all the wood surfaces. Vacuumed the carpet, then mopped the tiles. Hubby took out the old carpet in the hallway and put in stone looking tile. He painted the bathroom white and plans on putting the same tile in there also. The boys cleaned up mom's back yard -she had an old pear tree that we cut down last fall. Kody is buzzing away with his Sonlight curriculum, Collin is studying American life in the 1940's and Joseph is into China and ducks but mostly China and lovin' it. That's all the good news, now the bad. Hubby finally caught that crazy bug we hand last month and was feeling poorly through the week but he is feeling great now. Menu Plan Monday

Just a popping in for a quick note to let you know what's going on our neck of the woods. The kitchen is now sporting a new color all white. It is a real change from the Italian rose that it has been for the last 6 years and I really like it. It's so much brighter and has a calmer feeling about it. The boys and I cleaned out the dressers of old tee shirts that were stained, had paint on them or were torn and all were turned over to Joseph to cut up and fill the rag bag with. They also made new 5 potholders from cotton loops and cut out 15 napkins. I made 8 new dish towels and now have 5 new dish cloths for the kitchen. I re-hung my quilt top valances in the kitchen over the french lace panels. I made the valences from a twin size quilt top that my husband had gotten from his great aunt had made a few years back. The had been packed away since the didn't matche the kitchen any longer. I also patched the knees of three pairs of Joseph's jeans for and he stitched up a vest and set of  felt boots for his Winnie the Pooh bear (the Classic, not the ugly yellow disney version) - we are reading through The World of Winnie the Pooh. He really is enjoying it and giving everyone wonderful narrations - finally. He also has gotten the writting bug. He carries around little paper notebook he made to copy down every word that he sees. Kody and Collin, well lets just say the are typical middle school boys doing what ever is required of them in the area of school work and the are done - although Kody seem to be reading more than he use to. Besides the Harry Potter set he is now reading through the Myrtars and Revolutionaries by DC Talk and of course Collin is always got some old cookbook rummaging through it. Well, I guess that about covers it for now. Here's our grub for the week.

Breakfast~
gingerbread, applesauce, hot tea
steel cut oats with walnuts & cranberries, pumpkin cider (x2)
biscuits & gravy, peppermint tea
rice pudding, green goodness juice
boiled egg, cinnamon toast, happy honey bee tea

Menu Plan Monday

Just popping in to let you know what's on the table this week. Hope you had a pleasant week. Things around here have been busy but rewarding. Joseph is into some serious birdwatching out his bed room window sketching what he sees two or three times a day. He finished up his Apple blossom Fairy book and Ant book he was making this week. The older two began a unit on Oklahoma History. They baked pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and 3 loaves of bread for the freezer. They also played a lot of basketball with our nice weather this week before the cold and snow moves in.

I'm in the process of recycling a beautiful white full size 100% cotton sheet I found at the thrift shop into tea towels and napkins for kitchen and a small curtain for the bathroom. I crocheted three new dish cloths and I am planing on making three more this next week. Our new family addition - Kody bought himself an Anole lizard - so we now have two birds (Tweety & Sylvester), two dogs (Martha & Grace), two cats (Mollie & Ruby), two tanks full of fish (who are nameless) and a lizard named George Washington. Menu Plan Monday

This last week has been filled with the last preparations of the beginnings of our new school year - we home school year round from January through December. That half a year here and the other half the following year drives me nuts! Well, the solstice saw us getting venison (deer) for the freezer and New Year's we received ducks for the freezer. Organic meat for free!! Hey, it gets me excited. My hubby's partner at work is a single young man who lives by himself and loves to hunt and fish on his off time.  Last summer he gave us a ton of fish. He even cleans and dresses out the meat for us, can't beat that. We tried buying organic meats , however our budget just couldn't handle it for very long. This has really been a blessing to us. We have found organic ground beef for a decent price actually it's only about a forty cent a pound difference. Needless to say our New Year's Dinner was changed to grilled duck breasts, sweet potato casserole and French peas (that's just a fancy name for buttered peas with a sprinkle of nutmeg in them). Our menu this week is the following~

Breakfast~
boiled egg and cinnamon toast, happy honey bee tea
pumpkin breakfast cookies, hot cocoa (x2)
oatmeal with walnuts & golden raisins, spiced apple cider (x2)
pancakes with bananas, hot cocoa

Menu Plan Monday

Do hope everyone is doing well at this busy time of the year. Life has been filling our lives fully so I haven't been posting. One week was down with a cold, the next my uncle who lived with my mother passed away, the following week was Thanksgiving dinner for the family- thankfully we have finished up school for the year and plans for the next are already laid out. Did get a spot of wonderful news this week. Our oldest son and his wife are going to have a baby - that will give them 5 and us and even 10 grandchildren. It's hard to belive that it was just hubby and me thrity-three years ago!

So the plan is just Christmas  for the next three weeks. We have all our shopping done except for one person. Planning to put up the tree this week and do some baking. Now about the baking - My mom and the boys went to Braum's for ice cream the other night and they were putting out  fresh bananas. My mother made the off hand remark that they should make them down in stead of throwing them away to one of the boys. The salesman asked her if she was interested. She asked what the price was and he asked,"How about $2.00?" She said, "I'll Take them!" Now this is a woman who doesn't cook much and bakes even less. Guess who ended up with a large brown grocery bag filled to the top with speckled bananas! So I peeled, sliced, froze and bagged up all the bananas to use in smoothies and baking. I only had to toss out three that were mashed and had holes poked in them. I ended up with 3-one gallon freezer bag full. I was amazed at how many sliced bananas could fit into a freezer bag! The boys and I figured out that 13 slices equal one banana for recipes.

Breakfast~
rice pudding, hot cocoa
banana muffins, hot tea (x2)
toad in a hole, applesauce
oatmeal with walnuts & figs, hot tea (x2)
peanut butter on toast, banana, hot cocoa

Lunch~
veggie fried rice
grilled cheese sandwich, carrot, celery sticks with ranch dip
Leftover Irish stew, soda bread
baked sweet potatoes, ants on a log
Leftover ziti, orange slices
peanut butter & Jelly sandwich, apple slices (x2)

Dinner~
beans, fried potatoes, spinach, cornbread
feta & pea egg cups, herb roasted potatoes & carrots, bread & jam
baked fish, fried okra, french style peas, seasoned greens
Irish stew, soda bread
ziti, garden salad, garlic toast
creamed turkey on biscuits, roasted parsnips & butternut squash
chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans

Have a brilliantly blessed week.
